Biological Control

Charles Aquatics, Inc.’s biological control program primarily consists of the stocking of Triploid Grass Carp. A non-native herbivorous fish, Triploid Grass Carp require a permit from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Triploid Grass Carp are very effective in controlling many submersed, floating and immersed aquatic weeds. Weeds controlled by grass carp include hydrilla, southern naiad, slender spikerush, and chara as well as others.

To meet the permitting conditions an applicant must (1): file a FWC Triploid Grass Carp application and the supplemental fish barrier form; (2): install an approved fish barrier; (3): photograph and submit the fish barrier photo as well as provide continued maintenance of the fish barrier.

Charles Aquatics, Inc. provides the permitting, the installation and the maintenance of the fish barrier, as well as the stocking of Triploid Grass Carp, all which can be included in our typical annual aquatic management program.
